This month marks the 4.3 year anniversary of the first time Linux got into the major media/press. Of concern is whether the Linux "phenomena" is a fad/bubble, or its a long term contender in the marketplace. An exponential growth in perception for 4.3 years gives a 50/50 chance that it is a long term contender. 50% of stuff that is announced in the press has a life-cycle that is less than 4.3 years, when measured on an annual time scale, and, 50% more. John BTW, see, the Internet makes this market research stuff easy. A market researcher should say that Linux is a viable contender in the marketplace at this point. Those that said it a year ago are lucky it worked out for them-it was a risky assessment. Those that will say it next year missed the opportunity. -- John Conover, john@email.johncon.com, http://www.johncon.com/
